SPRING MILLS — The Penns Valley boys soccer team followed a scoreless tie with Bald Eagle Area by edging St. Joseph’s Catholic Academy, 2-1, in overtime at home on Sept. 13.
The Rams were coming off of a win over Bishop Guilfoyle, 3-0, on Sept. 11 at home.
Collin Fohringer scored the winning goal in overtime on a header. Luke Ruoff had the assist on a throw-in. Ethan Roland scored the first Penns Valley goal in regulation.
Ruoff scored two goals against BG, while Clayton Stover added a goal in the 74th minute. Robb made six saves in goal for the Rams (4-3-1).
“Hat’s off to Luke Ruoff for his contributions this evening with two goals,” Penns Valley coach Brian Markle said. “By the way, that second goal that happened this evening, it was just a thing of beauty in a sequence of play.”
BALD EAGLE AREA BOYS
WINGATE – The Bald Eagle Area and Penns Valley boys teams fought to a scoreless tie in two overtimes on Sept. 9 at BEA’s Alumni Stadium.
The Eagles also eked out a 2-1 win over Huntingdon on Sept. 11 at home.
BEA goalkeeper Henry Bacon made 10 saves, while Penns Valley keeper made eight stops.
“Both teams played really well,” BEA coach Jason Bair said. “We had some opportunities, but couldn’t find the back of the net. This was our second shutout in a row. I’m very proud of our team defense and overall play.”
BEA and Huntingdon were scoreless in the first half, but Easton Grimes got the Eagles (4-1-1) on the board in the second half with off of the first of his two goals off an assist from Jacob Richardson. Connor Maney assisted on the second goal by Grimes.
Bacon, who missed a shutout by 33 second, made four saves.
“Henry Bacon was fantastic tonight,” Bair said. “The defense did a good job, and we started slow in the first half, but in the second half the team really came alive and worked together as a team to secure the victory.
“Great group of young men to work with, and I’m proud of how they adjusted in the game and continue to improve each and every game.”
STATE COLLEGE BOYS
The State College boys team went 2-1, beating Cumberland Valley, 2-1, in double overtime on Sept. 9 at home and DuBois, 2-0, on Sept. 11 at home. The Little Lions lost, 1-0, on Sept. 13 at Lewisburg.
Against Cumberland Valley, Daniel Sahakian scored the game winning goal in double overtime with 8:49 remaining off of an assist from James Sheehan. Sahakian was swarmed by his teammates after the goal. Bryce Dwyer scored the first goal unassisted.
Sheehan scored against DuBois thanks to an assist from Sam McKee. Lucas Caceres also booted a goal, with the assist going to Lennon Wong. The Little Lions (5-2-2) were unable to score against Lewisburg.
BELLEFONTE BOYS
The Bellefonte boys team recorded two shutouts – 2-0 on Sept. 9 at Bishop Guilfoyle and 2-0 on Sept. 11 over Hollidaysburg at home.
Eli Davis was in goal for both shutouts, notching three saves against BG and five saves against the Golden Tigers.
Conelle Stabinger scored two goals for the Red Raiders (5-1) against Hollidaysburg. Stabinger and Cameron Ballas scored goals against BG.
PHILIPSBURG-OSCEOLA BOYS
The Philipsburg-Osceola boys team scored its first goals of the season in a 3-1 loss on Sept. 9 at Huntingdon and a 5-3 setback on Sept. 11 at Central.
And then the Mounties (1-6) captured their first win in a 6-0 rout at United on Sept. 15.
Sawyer Sites scored three goals and assisted on a Cale McDowell goal against United. Camden Henschel and Koby Souders also scored goals. Hank Hazelton dished out two assists and Nolan Beish had another assist.
P-O goalkeeper Matt Thompson made nine saves in the shutout.
Sites scored the first goal at the 50-minute mark against Huntingdon. P-O goalkeeper Thompson made 10 saves, but Huntingdon goals from Ajay Kowalski, Liam Norris and Tyler Zauzing.
Sites scored two goals against Central, while Beish gave P-O a 1-0 lead with a goal at the 15-minute mark off an assist from Aaron Henninger. Jacob Heuston scored three goals for Central. Thompson made 10 saves, while Connor Rudnick had seven stops.
BALD EAGLE AREA GIRLS
The Bald Eagle Area girls team battled to a 1-1 tie in double overtime on Sept. 10 at Huntingdon.
Addison Tice scored BEA’s only goal off of an assist from Savanna Albright at the 16:00 mark. BEA goalkeeper Cami Walker made 12 saves over regulation and two overtimes. The Lady Eagles held an 18-13 edge in shots on target.
“The girls played a great game tonight, and many of them ran all 100 minutes.” BEA coach Jared Moore said. ”Our defense was great, and Cami made some real timely saves in overtime to keep us in it.
“The offense pushed hard and created a lot of good scoring opportunities, but Huntingdon’s keeper was excellent. What a hard fought game. I am very proud of their effort tonight.”
BELLEFONTE GIRLS
The Bellefonte girls team lost, 1-0, on Sept. 10 at Hollidaysburg before suffering its fourth straight loss, 3-1, on Sept. 15 at Central to drop to 3-4.
Delaney Badger scored Bellefonte’s goal against Central off of an assist from Madyson Miller. Goalkeeper Ronni Spotts was able to make 17 saves in the loss.
Hollidaysburg got a goal from Lily Chestney at 16:15, and Elli Jadlocki recorded the shutout in goal.
PENNS VALLEY GIRLS
The Penns Valley girls team lost to undefeated Bishop Guilfoyle, 3-0, on Sept. 10 at Altoona’s Tom Irwin Field. Emma Marasco scored two goals for the Lady Marauders.
The Lady Rams (1-4-1) then battled to a 1-1 tie with Huntingdon on Sept. 15 at home.
STATE COLLEGE GIRLS
The State College girls team was shut out on Sept. 9 at Cumberland Valley, 5-0, and on Sept. 11 at Altoona, 2-0. The Lady Little Lions dropped to 1-6 with the losses.
PHILIPSBURG-OSCEOLA GIRLS
The Philipsburg-Osceola girls team fell to 0-4 with a 4-0 loss to Huntingdon on Sept. 9 at home.
